Agro-Pastoral Charity Organization (APCO) is a local non-governmental, non-profit-making organisation founded in 1998 that supports vulnerable populations affected by humanitarian crises in Somalia. APCO provides continued support to vulnerable communities by ensuring the sustainability of post-crisis interventions and addressing the long-term challenges facing our target populations — breaking the poverty cycle, fostering development and reducing vulnerability to disasters. In partnership with the Somalia Humanitarian Fund (SHF), APCO is implementing a nutrition project titled “Lifesaving Nutrition response for underserved communities impacted by climatic shocks in Sablaale District, Lower Shabelle Region, Somalia”, delivered through one fixed nutrition site in Buulo Doonka and two mobile outreach teams serving Mud Kalmooy, Halimayal, Caanawaa and Yaadjile villages. APCO is therefore looking for professionally confident, self-motivated, experienced and committed nutrition nurses.
The Role
Nutrition Nurses provide clinical nutrition services — screening, admission, treatment, follow-up, discharge and referral of children and PLW — deployed across the Buulo Doonka fixed OTP site and the two mobile outreach teams.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Conduct screening, admission, treatment, follow-up and discharge of SAM cases in line with Somalia IMAM guidelines.
• Manage OTP services (incl. appetite testing and RUTF protocols) and refer complicated cases appropriately.
• Provide health and nutrition education to caregivers and PLW.
• Support outreach services and community-based nutrition activities.
• Maintain accurate records, registers and reports.
• Any other tasks assigned by the line manager.
Required Skills and Experience
• Qualified/registered nurse (certificate or diploma in nursing).
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in IMAM/nutrition service delivery.
• Knowledge of CMAM/IMAM and MIYCN protocols and MoH guidelines.
• Good interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work in a team.
• Fluency in Somali is required.
